Square roots of fractions
Practice finding square roots of fractions, decimals, and mixed numbers.
The square root of a number is the nonnegative number whose square equals that number. Every question has an exact answer; no rounding is needed.
1. Fractions
Find the square roots of the numerator and denominator separately.
$\sqrt{\dfrac{9}{16}}=\dfrac{3}{4}$.
2. Decimals
Write the decimal as a fraction, then find the square roots of its numerator and denominator.
$\sqrt{0{,}81}=\sqrt{\dfrac{81}{100}}=\dfrac{9}{10}=0{,}9$.
3. Mixed numbers
First convert the mixed number to an improper fraction, then find its square root.
$\sqrt{2\dfrac{1}{4}}=\sqrt{\dfrac{9}{4}}=\dfrac{3}{2}=1\dfrac{1}{2}$.
Enter a whole number, fraction, decimal, or mixed number. For example: 2; 3/4; 0,75; 1 1/2. A decimal point or comma is accepted.
